12×16 Cruck Pavilion
A historic look with a modern finish. Common in Medieval England, a cruck frame features arching timbers that distribute the weight of the ridge beam directly to the ground. This pavilion is a great option for an outdoor dining space or single vehicle carport.

Easily fitting two vehicles as a carport, this pavilion could also be finished out as a garage, shop, or studio space. Here, the ridge beam is supported by braced king posts, creating an attractive open attic space.

All frames include fabrication, raising and install, one coat of preservation treatment and one coat of finish, and a full roofing package featuring a Pine T&G ceiling and your choice of shingles or galvanized steel roofing.

Timberframing is a traditional method of building that employs mortise and tenon joints to join large timbers. Timber structures with wood joinery date back to the Middle Ages, and many of those buildings are still standing today. It’s a classic method of construction that leaves a legacy for future generations while supporting historic craftsmanship.

We offer our frames in three different species: Southern Yellow Pine, Eastern White Pine, and Douglas Fir. For information on wood species, check out this article.
We also offer several different finish options, including S4S planed timber, stop chamfered edging, and both Heritage Finishing Oil and Proluxe SRD stained finishes. All our frames are treated with our custom preservation treatment.

Timberframing is a traditional craft that requires unique training and skillsets. Since every element of the building is visible to the eye, attention to detail is essential. It’s structural and finish carpentry all in one.
We also build each one of our frames to order by hand. Your structure is not being mass-produced or machine milled: it’s being hand carved by a local family, one timber at a time. Some timber frame shops only fabricate the frame: we offer the frame, installation, and the roofing package.
When you purchase a timberframe structure, you are investing in a piece of history. Timberframe structures from 700 AD are still standing today. Talk about legacy!

Since we are focused on craftsmanship in the manufacturing, we do not handle permits, zoning, site prep, or concrete.
We do provide you with a step by step checklist so that you can prepare your site adequately before we arrive to raise your frame.

Quinn
Quinn knew he was destined to work with trees when he lodged a hatchet in his foot trying to cut one down. You might say it’s “in his blood.”
The younger (but more handsome) half of the True North team, Quinn enjoys working in our open-air shop, running our chain mortiser and drill press.
Quinn enjoys fishing, golfing, and all things outdoors.
Caleb
Caleb’s first tree-related memory was accidentally setting one on fire with a flaming arrow. Things have improved since then.
Together with Quinn, he’s spent thousands of hours building and working on everything from hardwood floors to custom RV remodels.
When he is not in the shop, Caleb is spending time with his wife and two boys, as well as composing music for film and media.
